Scene IV.
\nRomeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio\u2014another friend of theirs, and a cousin of the Prince\u2019s\u2014decided to go to the feast(\u5bb4\u4f1a) together.
\nBut since they were not expected guests, they felt it would be better to come after the meal, for the dancing.
\n\u201cDo you think we should make a speech to introduce ourselves?\u201d asked Romeo.
\n\u201cNo, such formalities(\u793c\u8282) are too old-fashioned,\u201d said Benvolio.
\n\u201cLet\u2019s just go in, and join the dancing!\u201d
\n\u201cThen give me the torch(\u706b\u70ac),\u201d said Romeo.
\n\u201cI do not feel like dancing. Since I feel so heavy, I will bring light.\u201d
\n\u201cBut you must dance, Romeo!\u201d said Mercutio.
\n\u201cThe soles(\u978b\u5e95) of your dancing shoes are light and nimble(\u7075\u6d3b\u7684), but my soul is as heavy as lead.
\nIt weighs me down, so that I cannot move.\u201d
\n\u201cYou are a lover\u2014borrow Cupid\u2019s wings, and use them to fly higher than all the rest!\u201d said Mercutio.

\n\u201cIf love is rough with you, then be rough with it!\u201d said Mercutio.
\n\u201cIf it hurts you, hurt it right back! Now let me find a mask.
\nDid we bring one ugly enough for this ugly face of mine?\u201d
\n\u201cNow let us go in, and dance!\u201d said Benvolio.
\n\u201cGive me a torch to carry, and I will watch,\u201d said Romeo.
\n\u201cAs they say, \u2018the spectators(\u89c2\u4f17) see the most of the game.\u2019 \u201d
\n\u201cWhy don\u2019t you want to dance?\u201d asked Benvolio.
\n\u201cI know you mean well,\u201d Romeo replied.
\n\u201cBut I am afraid, I dreamed a dream last night.\u201d
\n\u201cOh, did Mab the Fairy(\u4ed9\u5973) Queen visit you then?\u201d said Mercutio.
\n\u201cShe is the midwife(\u63a5\u751f\u5a46) to our dreams.
\nShe comes in a coach made out of a nut-shell, with a gnat(\u5c0f\u866b) for a coachman(\u9a6c\u8f66\u592b).
\nShe rides through lovers\u2019 brains, and they dream of love\uff1bover ladies\u2019 lips\uff0c
\nand they dream of kisses\uff1bover lawyers\u2019 fingers\uff0cand they dream of fees.
\nShe passes over the neck of a soldier, and he dreams of ambushes(\u4f0f\u51fb), cutting throats, and swords of fine Spanish steel.
\nHe frightens himself, says a prayer, and goes to sleep again.
\nIt is Queen Mab who teaches girls how to conceive(\u6000\u80ce) a child, and how to bear one.
\nIt is she who . . .\u201d But Romeo interrupted him.
\n\u201cEnough, Mercutio! You are talking rubbish!\u201d he said.
\n\u201cI am, for that is what dreams are\u2014the rubbish of the day that at night the mind tries to get rid of(\u6d88\u9664),\u201d said Mercutio.
\n\u201cThey are as empty as the air, and as changeable as the distracted(\u5206\u6563\u7684) wind that blows now from the North, now from the South.\u201d
\n\u201cThe distracted(\u601d\u7eea\u7eb7\u4e71\u7684) wind you talk of has distracted(\u4f7f\u5206\u5fc3) us also,\u201d said Benvolio.
\n\u201cDinner is already over, we should go in before it is too late.\u201d
\n\u201cI fear we may have come too early,\u201d said Romeo.
\n\u201cI have a fearful misgiving(\u62c5\u5fc3) that I cannot name, that this night may have some fateful(\u547d\u4e2d\u6ce8\u5b9a\u7684) consequence that ends this hateful life of mine.
\nBut now, lead on! You brought me here, so now direct my course.
\nOn, young gentlemen!\u201d
\nAnd so, despite Romeo\u2019s fears, they went in to Old Capulet\u2019s party.
\nScene V.
\nThey came in just as the servants were busy clearing away the last of the dishes, tables, and chairs after dinner.
\n\u201cTake out the serving-trays and the silver, then the stools(\u51f3\u5b50), then fold up the trestle-tables and take them out too!\u201d said the head servant.
\n\u201cAnd save me some of that marzipan(\u674f\u4ec1\u86cb\u767d\u7cd6) while you are about it!
\nLook lively now, and get the room ready for dancing!\u201d
\nOld Capulet gave a short speech: \u201cWelcome, one and all!
\nLadies, please stand up to dance and show us those pretty legs of yours.
\nIf you do not stand up, we will know it is because your legs are not pretty enough.
\nGentlemen, I remember the days when I myself would wear a mask and whisper sweet nothings(\u65e0\u5173\u7d27\u8981\u7684\u4e8b) in a lady\u2019s ear.
\nThose days are past for me, but not for you.
\nMusicians, play! Make space now, and dance!\u201d And the dancing began.
